Use Lens Blur's refinement controls and paint with the Focus brush over the area that should remain sharp. Visualize the depth information if it helps you understand the mistaken boundary, then inspect the photograph with the visualization off. Work around detailed edges at a useful zoom level. The depth estimate can need correction, especially where similar tones make the foreground and background difficult to distinguish.
When copying or synchronizing Lens Blur, use Focus on Subject when you want Lightroom to determine the subject separately for each destination image. Leaving that option off carries over the source focus settings instead. Inspect the results individually, particularly when a scene contains several plausible subjects. The same blur strength can be useful across a series while the area that stays sharp needs to change.
Open the photos in Compare view and use the linked zoom controls to examine matching detail in the Select and Candidate images. Keep the link enabled when you want their viewing scale to stay together. If the compositions differ, adjust the viewed areas deliberately before deciding which is sharper. Compare the actual subject detail at a useful enlargement rather than judging only the fit-to-window previews.
Use the filter lock so the current Library filter remains active as you move to another source. Check the lock and the filter criteria if a new folder unexpectedly looks empty; its photos may simply fail the carried-over conditions. Unlock or clear the filter when you want a fresh view. A persistent filter is useful for consistent reviewing, but its state should stay visible in your workflow.
Open the Watermark Editor, choose a graphic watermark, and select the logo image. A PNG can preserve a transparent background, while a JPEG does not provide that transparency. Adjust its size and placement, save a named watermark preset, and preview it on several photos. Check both light and dark backgrounds before exporting because a logo that works on one image can become unreadable on another.
Choose the appropriate corner anchor in the Watermark Editor and adjust the horizontal and vertical inset controls. Use proportional sizing when the watermark should scale with the photograph, then preview portrait and landscape examples. Anchoring and inset control placement, while size controls how much of the image the mark occupies. Check the final exported dimensions because a comfortable margin in one format may look cramped in another.
In Export, enable image resizing and choose Long Edge, then enter the required pixel length. This applies the limit to whichever side is longer rather than forcing every image into one orientation. Use Don't Enlarge when smaller originals should retain their existing dimensions. Check the output files afterward, especially if the destination has both a size limit and its own cropping requirements.
In the Export dialog's metadata controls, choose Remove Location Info for an appropriate output format. Inspect a sample exported file to confirm the coordinates are absent before sharing the batch. This setting concerns the output copy, so your catalog can retain location information for organization. Adobe notes an exception for DNG export, so do not assume the same metadata controls apply identically to every format.
Configure the Export dialog with the required format, sizing, destination behavior, and other settings, then add a named export preset. Give it a purpose-based name so it is easy to distinguish from another client's requirements. Load it and check the destination before each delivery. A preset saves repeated configuration, but the selected photos and any job-specific folder still deserve a final review.
Export With Previous repeats the last export settings, including changes made after loading a preset. It does not necessarily reload that preset's original stored values. Open the Export dialog and choose the named preset explicitly when you need its saved configuration. Review destination and dimensions before proceeding, especially if the most recent export was a small test or used a different delivery folder.
Create a Hard Drive publish service with the needed output settings and place the photos in its published collection. Lightroom tracks edited items as needing republishing; use Publish to write the updated output. Check the modified queue after an editing session instead of assuming the disk folder updates instantly. This workflow is useful when the same selected photographs need refreshed copies in a stable destination.
A publish collection can queue removal until its next Publish operation. Inspect the Deleted Photos To Remove section and publish when you are ready to apply that change to the destination. Removing the collection item and updating the external folder are separate moments in this workflow. Check the destination afterward so you know the published set matches the selection you intend to maintain.
Open Preferences, External Editing, and configure the additional external editor by selecting its application. Set the transfer format and related options, then save a preset if you use that setup regularly. Choose that editor from the editing commands when needed. Confirm that the application supports the chosen file format, and test the round trip on a copy before using the workflow for an important finished image.
A 16-bit file preserves more tonal precision for further editing but uses more space than an 8-bit file. Choose it when the receiving editor supports it and substantial adjustments remain. An 8-bit file can suit a workflow with stricter compatibility or size needs. Set the color space deliberately too; bit depth alone does not determine whether the receiving application interprets colors as intended.
Choose Custom Package for a page containing different photographs in differently sized cells. Picture Package is intended for multiple sizes of one photograph, while Single Image or Contact Sheet follows a different arrangement. Set the paper and page layout before positioning the cells, then inspect each crop. Selecting the matching layout style first avoids fighting a template designed for another kind of output.
Check Zoom To Fill. That setting fills the cell even when its proportions differ from the photograph, which can trim part of the image. Turn it off when the whole frame must fit, or reposition the image within the cell when the crop is intentional. Review each cell in a mixed layout because a setting that suits one photograph may cut off important detail in another.
Decide which component manages color. When Lightroom uses a selected printer profile, disable the printer driver's own color adjustment as the driver permits. Check the paper and printer combination associated with that profile. Letting both systems independently transform the colors can produce an unintended result. Make a small test print after changing the setup rather than judging a full print run from the screen alone.
In the Print module's Print Job panel, choose JPEG File as the output instead of sending the layout directly to a printer. Set the dimensions, resolution, quality, and color profile to suit the lab's requirements, then save the file. Open the exported layout to inspect margins and crops. Confirm the lab will print the complete composite without applying another automatic crop.
Use Create Saved Book to preserve the book as a saved collection with its layout settings. Give it a recognizable project name and confirm it appears in the Collections panel. Return to that saved book when continuing, rather than starting another unsaved layout from the same photographs. Saving the book's structure lets you keep refining page choices and captions across separate editing sessions.
Enable the book layout guides and keep essential text inside the text-safe area. Treat the outer page edge and bleed region separately from a comfortable reading margin. Inspect every page after changing the book size or layout because a caption that fitted earlier may move. Full-bleed photographs can intentionally reach the edge, but names and other necessary text need room away from the trim.
Check whether the camera's capture times match the track log's time basis. Use the track log time offset to account for a clock or timezone difference before auto-tagging. Compare a photo taken at a known location to verify the correction. A consistent timing mismatch can assign plausible but incorrect positions, so inspect the map instead of assuming a successful match proves the coordinates are right.
Create or edit the relevant saved location in the Map module and mark it Private. Lightroom can then exclude location metadata for photos in that private area during export. Define the area carefully and inspect a sample output. This location-based approach is useful when your catalog still needs the coordinates for organizing images but sharing photographs from that particular place should omit them.
Open the video in Loupe view, move to the desired frame, and use Capture Frame. Lightroom creates a JPEG and stacks it with the clip. Look in the source folder or All Photographs if the new still is not visible in the collection you were browsing. Inspect the captured image at its actual size because video resolution and motion blur limit the usable detail.
Move the playback head to a representative frame and use Set Poster Frame. This changes the frame used to identify the clip without making that point the start of the video. Choose an image that helps you recognize the content in Grid view. Keep thumbnail selection separate from trimming decisions so an attractive preview does not accidentally become a decision about which footage to retain.
