Format documents, organize writing, collaborate, and prepare readable files for sharing or printing.
Search this topicChoose Insert > Image and select the source, such as a file on your computer or Drive. Pick the image and insert it, then check its size and placement. Use a picture you have permission to include, and add useful alt text if it communicates information that readers need to understand.
Use Pages format, select the picture, and choose Wrap text from its layout options. Adjust spacing and decide whether the picture moves with text or stays at a fixed page position. Check nearby paragraphs afterward. These positioning controls are not available in the same way in Pageless format, so first confirm the document's layout mode.
In a Pageless document, type @cover image and choose the cover-image option, then select or upload the picture you want. Reposition it so the important area remains visible. This feature is specific to Pageless mode; switching the document to Pages hides the cover image rather than making it a conventional printed cover page.
Use Spelling and grammar check, then inspect each proposed correction and choose Change or Ignore. You can also right-click underlined text to review a suggestion. Check names, technical terms and intended meaning yourself. A clean automated check does not prove that the writing is accurate or that every sentence says what you intended.
Right-click the red-underlined word and choose Add to personal dictionary, or manage entries under Tools > Spelling and grammar > Personal dictionary. Add only spellings you have verified. If you accidentally add a typo, remove it from the dictionary so future documents do not silently treat the mistake as acceptable.
Open Tools > Translate document, name the translated copy, choose the target language, and translate. The copy opens separately and is also saved in Drive. Review names and meaning before relying on it. If the command is missing while editing an Office file, convert that file to Google Docs first.
Choose File > Language and select the language you intend to write in. This changes language-related editing behavior; it does not rewrite existing sentences into another language. Use Translate document when you need a translated copy. For non-Latin scripts, check the input tools or your keyboard layout as well.
Printing still needs paper-sized pages, so wide tables and images can be resized to fit. Previously added headers, footers or other page elements may print even when hidden in Pageless view. Switch back to Pages and inspect print preview when you need precise control over what appears on each sheet.
