Do not wash a damaged blanket or immerse a controller. Stop using a product with exposed wires, scorch marks, broken connections or unusual heat. Do not dry clean, iron or energize a damp blanket unless its instructions expressly permit a particular treatment—which ordinary heated bedding generally does not.

Find the model and manual
Read the sewn-in label and match it to the manufacturer’s manual. Check that washing is allowed and note water temperature, agitation, spin and drying restrictions. Do not borrow a cycle from a different model.

Unplug and inspect
Disconnect at the wall, detach removable controls and set them aside somewhere dry. Examine fabric, wires and connectors. A damaged electrical product needs replacement or manufacturer advice, not a wash to see if it improves.

Prepare the approved wash
Remove loose debris and use only the stated detergent amount and method. Ensure the appliance has enough room to avoid tightly twisting the blanket. Keep every controller and external power lead out of the water.

Wash without improvising
Use the exact permitted cycle or hand-wash process. Avoid bleach, wringing and extra heat unless explicitly allowed. If the manual is unclear, pause and contact the maker rather than selecting a “sanitize” setting.

Dry completely as directed
Support the blanket so its weight does not stretch wiring. Use only approved machine-drying time and temperature, followed by any required air drying. Never turn the blanket on to dry it.

Check both surfaces, seams and connector areas for remaining dampness or damage. Reconnect only when fully dry and in good condition, following the original operating instructions.

Common questions & sticking points
Can I use the dryer?
Only if the exact model allows it, and only for its stated temperature and duration. A normal towel cycle is not a substitute.
What if the controller gets wet?
Do not reconnect it. Contact the manufacturer for advice or replacement; surface drying does not establish electrical safety.
