A photo can open perfectly on your Mac and still be rejected by an upload form that expects JPG. Converting a copy in Preview solves the format problem without making you give the photo to another website. Work on one image first, then repeat the process for the rest.
Open the HEIC image in Preview, choose File → Export, select JPEG, and save with a new name or location.

Step by step

Open the image in Preview
In Finder, use Open With → Preview if the image opens somewhere else. Confirm that you have the correct photograph before exporting.

Choose Export
Use File → Export. In the Format menu, select JPEG. If a format is hidden, Apple suggests holding Option while opening that menu to see additional choices.

Choose quality and a destination
JPEG export offers a quality control. Start with a high-quality copy, give it a recognizable name, and choose a folder where you can find it.

Save and inspect
Save, then open the new JPEG independently. Check orientation, detail, and the whole frame. Use the new copy for the upload and retain the original.
JPG, JPEG, and an upload size limit
JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format. An upload form can impose a separate file-size limit, so a valid JPEG may still be too large. Read the error carefully before converting again.
If the form asks for less than 5 MB, for example, compare the exported file’s size with that limit. If needed, try a lower-quality export from the original and check the smallest visible details. Do not repeatedly edit and re-save the previous compressed copy when you can return to the source image.
Make a small batch easier to manage
Create an exports folder and keep the names paired: room-before.heic and room-before.jpg. This makes it easier to spot a missing conversion or attach the right file. Test one converted image in the destination system before processing a large folder.

Common questions & sticking points
Can I just rename .heic to .jpg?
No. Renaming the extension does not rewrite the image into JPEG format.
Can Preview convert several images?
Apple supports opening images together, selecting them in the sidebar, and exporting. Verify one image first so your format and quality choices are correct.
